"Narrated to us [Hasan bin Hasan] narrated to us [Muhammad bin Talhah] narrated to us [Humaid] from [Anas] may Allah be pleased with him, that his uncle missed the battle of Badr and said, 'I missed the first fight of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. If Allah grants me to fight with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, Allah will see what I do.' On the day of Uhud, when the Muslims were defeated, he said, 'O Allah, I apologize to You for what these people did,' meaning the Muslims, 'and I dissociate from what the polytheists brought.' He advanced with his sword and met Sa'd bin Mu'adh, saying, 'Where to, O Sa'd? I smell the fragrance of Paradise beyond Uhud.' He went on and was killed. No one recognized him except his sister, by a mark or his fingers, with over eighty wounds from stabs, strikes, and arrows.
