Narrated to us ['Ali bin Muslim] narrated to us [Yahya bin Zakariya' bin Abi Za'idah] Sa'd narrated to me [my father] from [Abu Ishaq] from [Al Bara' bin 'Azib, may Allah be pleased with them], who Sa'd 'The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent a group of Ansar to kill Abu Rafi'. One entered their fortress, hid in their stable, and when they locked the gate, they lost a donkey. I joined their search, pretending to look with them. They found it, re-entered, and locked the gate. They placed the keys in a niche I saw. When they slept, I took the keys, opened the gate, and approached him, saying, "O Abu Rafi'." He answered. I altered my voice, struck him, and he cried out. I left, returned as if to help, and Sa'd "O Abu Rafi'," changing my voice. He Sa'd "Woe to your mother, what?s wrong?" I Sa'd "What happened?" He Sa'd "Someone struck me." I thrust my sword into his belly, pressing until it hit bone, then fled, dazed. I reached their ladder to escape but fell, spraining my leg. I joined my companions, saying, "I won?t leave until I hear the death announcement." I heard, "Abu Rafi', merchant of Hijaz, is dead." I stood, despite my pain, and we informed the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.'
