Imam Nasa'i : 1470أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَنْ قَبِيصَةَ الْهِلَالِيِّأَنَّ الشَّمْسَ انْخَسَفَتْ فَصَلَّى نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ حَتَّى انْجَلَتْ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْخَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا خَلْقَانِ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يُحْدِثُ فِي خَلْقِهِ مَا شَاءَ وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِذَا تَجَلَّى لِشَيْءٍ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ يَخْشَعُ لَهُ فَأَيُّهُمَا حَدَثَ فَصَلُّوا حَتَّى يَنْجَلِيَ أَوْ يُحْدِثَ اللَّهُ أَمْرًا
Narrated to us [Muhammad bin Al Mutsanna] he said :Narrated to us [Mu'adz bin Hisham] he said : [My father] has told me from [Qatadah] from [Abu Qilabah] from [Qabishah Al Hilali], the sun experienced an eclipse so the Prophet sallallaahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam prayed two rak'ahs until the sun was bright again. Then he said: "The sun and the moon do not experience an eclipse because of someone's death, but they are two signs of the greatness of Allah. Allah the Mighty and Majestic does something with His creation according to HIS will. And if He shows part of His creation it will make Him afraid. Whichever of them experiences an eclipse, then pray until the light returns or Allah decides the matter."
