Imam Abu Dawud : 4122حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ عَنْ الْمُخْتَارِ بْنِ فُلْفُلٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُأَغْفَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِغْفَاءَةً فَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مُتَبَسِّمًا فَإِمَّا قَالَ لَهُمْ وَإِمَّا قَالُوا لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لِمَ ضَحِكْتَ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيَّ آنِفًا سُورَةٌ فَقَرَأَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ{ إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ }حَتَّى خَتَمَهَا فَلَمَّا قَرَأَهَا قَالَ هَلْ تَدْرُونَ مَا الْكَوْثَرُ قَالُوا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ فَإِنَّهُ نَهْرٌ وَعَدَنِيهِ رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَعَلَيْهِ خَيْرٌ كَثِيرٌ عَلَيْهِ حَوْضٌ تَرِدُ عَلَيْهِ أُمَّتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ آنِيَتُهُ عَدَدُ الْكَوَاكِبِ
Narrated to us Hannad bin As Sari said, narrated to us Muhammad bin Fudhail from Al Mukhtar bin Fulful he said I heard Anas bin Malik saying, The Messenger of Allah peace be upon him dozed off for a while, after that he raised his head and smiled. (At that time) he said to them, or they said to him, O Messenger of Allah, why did you laugh? He answered: Just now a surah was revealed to me. He then recited: (In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Indeed, We have given you abundant favor…) to the end of the verse. When he finished reciting it, he asked: Do you know what Al Kauthar is? The companions answered, Allah and His Messenger know better. He said: It is a river in Paradise promised by my Lord to me. In it there is much goodness. In it there is also a Lake used for drinking by my ummah on the Day of Resurrection. Its cups are as numerous as the stars in the sky.
