Narrated to us [Al Anshari] said, narrated to us [Ma'n] said, narrated to us [Malik bin Anas] from [Al Fudhail bin Abu Abdullah] from [Abdullah bin Niyar Al Aslami] from [Urwah] from ['Aisyah], she said: 'The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, set out for Badr until he reached a highland called Wabar. Suddenly, a polytheist man caught up with him, showing his courage and skill. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked the man: Do you believe in Allah and His Messenger?" The man replied: "No." He said: "Go back, I will never seek help from a polytheist." The hadith is actually longer than this. This hadith is hasan gharib and is a guiding practice according to some scholars, who say: "Ahl al-Dhimmah (non-Muslims under Muslim protection) do not receive a share of the spoils even if they fight alongside Muslims against the enemy." However, some scholars hold that they do receive a share of the spoils if they fight alongside Muslims."
