Imam Muslim : 4640حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لِابْنِ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْعَلَاءَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ لِي قَرَابَةً أَصِلُهُمْ وَيَقْطَعُونِي وَأُحْسِنُ إِلَيْهِمْ وَيُسِيئُونَ إِلَيَّ وَأَحْلُمُ عَنْهُمْ وَيَجْهَلُونَ عَلَيَّ فَقَالَ لَئِنْ كُنْتَ كَمَا قُلْتَ فَكَأَنَّمَا تُسِفُّهُمْ الْمَلَّ وَلَا يَزَالُ مَعَكَ مِنْ اللَّهِ ظَهِيرٌ عَلَيْهِمْ مَا دُمْتَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ
Narrated to me [Muhammad bin Al Mutsanna] and [Muhammad bin Basysyar] and this wording belongs to Ibnu Al Mutsanna who said Narrated to us [Muhammad bin Ja'far] Narrated to us [Syu'bah] who said I heard [Al A'laa bin 'Abdur Rahman] narrate from [his father] from [Abu Hurairah] that a man once said 'O Messenger of Allah, I have relatives. I always strive to maintain kinship ties with them, but they sever it. I always strive to do good to them, but they harm me. I always strive to be gentle with them, but they are indifferent to me.' Then the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him said: 'If it is true as you say, then you are like feeding them hot dust, and as long as you do so, Allah's help will always be with you.'
