Narrated to us [Hannad] has told us [Waki'] from [Israil] from [Abu Ishaq] from [Al Bara` bin Azib] he said : "When Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam arrived in Medina, he prayed facing the Baitul Maqdis for sixteen or seventeen months, but Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam wanted to face the Kaaba, so Allah revealed the verse: "Indeed, We (often) see your face looking up to the sky, then indeed We will turn you to the Qibla that you like. Turn your face towards the Grand Mosque." QS Al-Baqarah: 144. Then he turned his face towards the Ka'bah, and he liked it very much, then someone prayed the afternoon prayer with him. After that he passed a group of friends from the Ansar, they were bowing down in the afternoon prayer while facing Baitul Maqdis." Barra` said : The friend testified that he had prayed Asr prayer with the Prophet peace be upon him and he had been presented with the Kaaba. Barra` said : "They also turned their faces in a state of bowing." Abu Isa said : This hadith is hasan sahih . [Sufyan Ats Tsauri] also narrated it from [Abu Ishaq].
