Narrated to us by Muhammad bin Hatim and Ibn Abu Umar, both from Ibn Uyainah - Ibn Hatim said - Narrated to us by Sufyan bin Uyainah from Abdah and Ashim bin Abun Najud, both heard Zirr bin Hubaisy say, I asked Ubay bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him). I said, 'Indeed your brother Ibn Mas'ud said, 'Whoever performs night prayer throughout the year, surely he will obtain the night of Laylatul Qadr.'' So Ubay bin Ka'b said, 'May Allah have mercy on him. He wanted people not to rely solely on tawakkal. Indeed he has known that Laylatul Qadr occurs in the month of Ramadan, namely in the last ten days precisely on the twenty-seventh night.' Then Ubay bin Ka'b swore that the existence of Laylatul Qadr is on the twenty-seventh night. So I asked, 'On what basis do you say that, O Abu Mundzir?' He replied, 'Based on the signs or indications that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has informed us, that on that day the sun rises with rays that do not sting.'
